About
Regency Centers, the developer of Market at Colonnade, purchased 6.8 acres at the intersection of Six Fords Road and Colonnade Center Drive in October 2007 with the intent of bringing Whole Foods Market to North Raleigh. For two years, Regency worked closely with neighbors and Whole Foods Market to gain community support to rezone the Market at Colonnade so that first-class grocery and retail could be brought to the neighborhood. Regency was fortunate to receive the support of many local neighbors and business owners, which was represented by the more than 2,400 people signing a petition (www.bringwholefoods.org). In March 2009, the project received zoning approval by the Raleigh City Council by a vote of 6-1.
Scheduled to open in early 2011, Market at Colonnade will offer local neighbors many firsts. Whole Foods Market will open its first new construction store in North Carolina. Market at Colonnade will be the first retail project in the neighborhood to build street front retail, the first retail project in the Triangle to be constructed to the US Green Building Council’s LEED certifications, and the first commercial development in North Carolina to implement a stormwater management system that will recharge the groundwater on-site. Market at Colonnade’s innovative stormwater design is being monitored by NC State University and is a recipient of a North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund Grant Agreement for its Innovative Stormwater Project.
Regency Centers is proud to partner with WelCor Development on the development of Market at Colonnade. Jim Broemer, President of WelCor, brings with him 25 years of real estate experience to the development team. Jim Broemer has developed more than 3 million square feet of retail real estate throughout the Southeast, including Raleigh’s Brier Creek while working with the American Asset Corporation. Jim’s experience, talents and seven (7) year commitment to this project have been instrumental bringing Whole Foods Market to North Raleigh.
Regency Centers shares its excitement with neighbors and local employees in bringing these firsts to the neighborhood. Please check back for updates about the project.
